When Wendy contacted me to document her day, she mentioned that she was going to wear a very special wedding dress that belonged to her Aunt. Initially she was concerned that during the alteration process it would totally fall apart and not survive the day. As it turned out, the dress turned out perfectly and she was able to wear it proudly. Even the Vintage cake topper was her Godmother’s from 1960!

heather and david had a great wedding at sedona golf resort on an overcast day in october…. heather was gorgeous and her excitement was so contagious. she was super smart to enlist margaret of van damme weddings to help with all the details and planning. between katie at sedona golf resort and margaret and her staff at van damme weddings, the day went beautifully! the sun even peaked out on the red rocks at sunset… it was gorgeous!fabulous wedding vendors::

heather found her signs from an artist on etsy… a great resource for finding great details made by artisans

instead of using numbers heather chose the names of the red rock formations in sedona…. bear mountain, where david proposed to heather, was of course the newly weds table

Weddings In Sedona Are Changing Looks

In Show Stopper’s on-going quest for new things to do, we realized that the new look we were seeking for 2012 was already all around us. Anyone that has been in the Show Stoppers’ showroom, or in our home, knows our fascination for everything cultural, rustic, ethnic, retro, distressed, beaded, woven, mysterious, textural, exotic, comfy and gypsy-like. Throw in some Middle Eastern, Native American, woodsy, sheer fabrics, religious artifacts, flora, fauna, mood lighting and a good helping of Stevie Nicks… and you have got the picture.

Out of nowhere, we discovered our work on this really cool website, depicted in images by Katrina and Andrew of Sedona Bride Photography. While perusing the site, we quickly realized that tons of the stuff we were looking at, we already have and use (like the old Moroccan bracelets we use for bouquet handles.) The furnishings in our showroom naturally reflect our personal tastes and interests. So, instead of just occasionally using our favorite things just here-and-there when we get the chance, Show Stoppers is going full throttle in 2012 with… BOHEMIAN.

It’s not for everyone, but for that certain bride who wants something really different, it just might be the way to go, especially for a wedding in Sedona. Show Stoppers is overflowing with all kinds of furniture, props, architectural elements and fabrics, limited only be one’s imagination in how to use them in creative ways.

We have used touches of the Bohemian style for years. Here are some favorite images.

Moody lighting and Moroccan details make for a stylish evening with friends and family at L’Auberge de Sedona.

Old perfume bottles and fabric-covered picture frames with international postage stamps provided interesting details.

Hand-painted Moroccan tea glasses serve as votive candles. Date Palm seeds, peacock feathers, pin cushion protea are tossed randomly on a table-top copper platter.

A cool silk tent, that one often sees shading passengers on the backs of Camels, was used to make a stylish vignette for the exotic cake designed by Sedona Cake Couture. We also found old wood block textile stamps and gave them to Andrea Carusetta who cleverly used them to stamp patterns in the fondant.

Here are some great shots from the side. This has been one of our all-time favorite cakes.

We love our exotic garden lanterns. They can be used indoors or out.

Banquet tables are becoming more and more popular and work perfectly with a Bohemian look.

All kinds of props can be used in countless ways to achieve a Bohemian look. We love these old teak columns wrapped with sheer embroidered fabric.

The 2012 Sedona Wedding Boot Camp has been expanded into a full week of events and festivities! Last year, both days were at capacity prompting the expansion. Sedona Wedding Boot Camp is brought to you by Sedona Wedding Studio, Northern Arizona’s largest and most comprehensive wedding organization for Brides having their weddings in Sedona. The 2012 Boot Camp will offer fresh and inventive ways for brides to plan their stylish Sedona weddings.

Again this year, The 2012 Sedona Wedding Boot Camp has been planned surrounding Valentine’s week. The week’s festivities will begin with a boutique style Sedona Wedding Studio Open House Soiree on Saturday, February 11th that will welcome studio members, media, studio friends and brides alike.

The week’s events will culminate with the expanded 2012 Sedona Wedding Boot Camp on Saturday, February 18th! Brides will be able to find everything and everyone they need to plan and design their romantic Sedona weddings. Brides will connect, meet, book and gather contact information from 80 Sedona Wedding Studio vendors while sampling food, cake and other treats as they stroll among beautiful vignettes, vendor displays, and exhibits in the lavishly decorated “wedding inspirations” pavilion and the connecting Sedona Wedding Studio show room.

The Sedona Wedding Boot Camp website will be launched the second week in November and registration will begin. Plan to take part in the informative mini-seminars given by guest speakers including Jim and Ken of Events By Show Stoppers. A schedule of speakers and times will be posted on the Sedona Wedding Studio website. Don’t miss the most important Sedona wedding event of the year. Every once in a while I engage in a conversation that reminds me how lucky we are here in Arizona to have such talented and innovative wedding vendors to work with. While talking “wedding world” with people who are not in the industry or planning a wedding, their eyes gloss over when I speak about escort card displays, candy bars and late-night sliders. I guess I take all those things for granted but one thing that all people can appreciate as soon as I explain it is the Rose Petal Carpet.

As far as I’m concerned, this floral concept is the #1 way to impact the look of your ceremony and Events by Showstoppers specializes in them. Ken and Jim, Showstoppers’ founders, consistently design spectacular carpets and never stop innovating with their designs. It’s cutting edge floral that rocks my world!

As you can imagine, the process of designing and executing these very special carpets is labor intensive but I think Events by Showstoppers founders Jim and Ken really have a passion for it. Here’s what they had to say when I asked them a few questions about their work:

KG: You always seem to be on the cutting-edge when it comes to floral design. Where do you get your inspiration from?

J/K: We get our inspiration from all kinds of sources. One source is from our love of old classic movies. We love to incorporate, for example, lighting effects we see in old ” film noir ” movies from the 40s and 50s. Some of our best inspiration comes from the old classic biblical movies where we get great ideas for fabric draping, unusual color schemes, and other lighting effects. The half circular rose petal carpet we produced for a PB&G shoot at L’Auberge ( a few issues ago ) was actually inspired while watching Cleopatra. I designed the carpet like an Egyptian jeweled collar. When I explain the inspiration for this design, people immediately ” get it .”

KG: How long have you been doing rose petal carpets and what do you love most about them?

J/K: For about 4 years. I especially love the process of drawing the concept, selecting the colors and calculating the quantity. Seeing the final result and how it pleases the onlookers is very fulfilling.

KG: What challenges do you face when creating rose petal carpets and how do you overcome them?

J/K: Wind. You don’t overcome it. You have to go with it.

KG: If you could create your dream rose petal carpet, what would it look like?

J/K: A kaleidoscope. Lots of interesting things can be done.. especially indoors.

KG: What floral trends are you seeing for Winter ’11/Spring ’12 weddings?

J/K: I don’t know about other designers but we are interested in one color ( monochromatic ) color schemes with multiple, muted derivatives of that color, combined with various tones of grey. Like muddy mustard colors combined with charcoal and lighter grey. Also interested in complimentary and split-compliment schemes like mustard colors against raspberry and fuchsia with grey or silver.

Tlaquepaque Wedding

Beautiful Sedona Wedding at Tlaquepaque

When we learned that Remi was of Japanese heritage and John was English, we immediately thought this wedding would be an interesting project. The ceremony was held at The Sedona Heritage Museum with the reception immediately following at Tlaquepaque. The reception was in the Calle Independencia which is a very popular venue because of the romantic Spanish architecture, trickling fountains, glowing carriage lanterns and charming overhead string lighting. The wedding was planned by popular Sedona wedding planner, Karen Lynn, who did a superb job. Katrina Wallace and Andrew Mejia, Sedonabride.com, captured the wedding beautifully. We enjoyed designing this wedding because of the Japanese elements we were able to incorporate.

Here is a great shot of the traditional Japanese Torii which is considered a gateway to a holy site. We made it of giant timber bamboo held together by traditional wooden dowels. It was beautiful against the red cliffs of Sedona. Remi and John were conscious of every detail.

Ken did an exceptional job of designing her bouquet in a contemporary Japanese style. He used exaggerated angles that created a fascinating enclosure for the flowers themselves. Ikebana style floral design has be an interest of Ken’s for years and influences many of his designs.

The bride’s maids were smaller but made from some of the same flower types. Orchids, antique hydrangeas, equisetum and cockscomb were used in the designs.

Here are some close-ups of the Bride’s Maid’s bouquets. The combination of colors and textures were very effective. The red cockscomb was used at the base of the bouquets to give them weight. A simple ribbon tie completed the elegant designs. The custom handle of Remi’s bouquet is made of equisetum. Ken chose this type of reed because it mimics bamboo and went perfectly with the theme.

The head table was really lush. We used manzanita branches, hydranges, orchids and equisetum. Smaller square glass cubes, some with candles and some with equisetum were used randomly down the table. Small origami cranes symbolizing faithfulness dangled everywhere from branches of manzanita. We were very pleased with the overall look of this wedding.

Dulhania Bazaar Opens On October 23rd

Exotic Dulhania Bazaar Wedding Expo

Events By Show Stoppers was honored to be a sponsor of the fabulous Dulhania Bazaar wedding expo and fashion show in 2009. The expo targets South Asian brides. Show Stoppers designed the entire stage set and ambient lighting. It was quite a cultural learning experience and we are looking forward to designing weddings for this wonderful international group.

Our friend, Shy Kahn, was a joy. Shy is one of the producers of the show and saw to our every need. We learned so much from Shy and appreciated her allowing Events By Show Stoppers to be one of the sponsors. Between her shows in Chicago and Scottsdale, she is quite busy year round. Congratulations, Shy, on an incredible show!!!

The Dulhania Bazaar was held at the spectacular J.W. Marriott Desert Ridge Resort. The J.W. Marriot astounded us with their efficiency and the way they accommodated us with literally everything we needed. Ken and I give our sincerest thanks and appreciation to Connie Thibault and her staff. Everyone was a pleasure to work with. The entire experience could not have been more fun and beautiful.

This year’s Dulhania Bazaar will be held again at the J.W. Marriott Desert Ridge Resort on October 23rd from 11:00 to 5:00. Don’t miss the incredible show.

The runway for the fashion show was 36ft. long. We designed one of our vivid rose petal carpets for the models to stroll through, strike poses and show their unbelievably intricate and stunning saris. We used colors that coordinated with the fuchsia, pink and orange color palette used in the lighting and stage fabrics. The models entered through the hand-carved, antique Indian archway shown at the rear of the stage. They proceeded under the traditional Mandap and continued down the runway to the pulsing beat of current rock music remixed in the different languages represented at the show. Absolutely incredible!

This image shows the details of our Mandap. We purchased 4 antique, intricately, hand-carved teak columns that were once in the entry of a lavish estate in India and used them for the columns of our Mandap. Exotic fresh flowers were placed on top of the columns. Yards of gorgeous embroidered sari fabric was draped around the columns and over-the-top of the structure. The iridescent sheer fabric shimmered magically in the spotlights. Finally, sparkling, jeweled tassels were used as fabric tie-backs.

Palm trees up-lit in orange flanked each side of the stage. Paisley patterns were projected onto the air walls behind the stage in orange and fuchsia.

Here you can see another view of the Mandap. Tangerine fabrics were used to screen the dressing room behind the stage.

We love these images of the gorgeous models stepping through our rose petal carpet! The boisterous crowd expressed their approval over-and-over in ever increasing enthusiasm.
